Betty the Blue Balloon Back Chair
Betty felt old. It made sense. She was pushing 150 and that’s a impressive age for a chair (or an elephant). When I found her she was outdoors, huddled under 3 different eras of seat upholstery fabric. As I helped her shed these sad and tattered robes, she admired some designer cut velvet fabric that I had lying about in the workshop. “I could wear blue shoes with that” she said. It’s hard to turn down someone as elderly as Betty. She more than deserved her new upholstery, wood finishing and paint after all these years.
